Cool Three FDOS teams competed this Saturday and were awarded the prize money and honor of being Apple Harvest Festival's Iron Chefs. A BIG THANK YOU TO judges: our local judge, Mike Campbell, and forum members, The Dukes of Corning, Roberta & Warren.

Main dishes were Chicken & rice
40 Miler Stew
Moroccan Lamb
Desserts featured apples and there was
an Apple Gallete & Pineapple/Apple Bread
Bread winner, Ruth Dekat, had a pumpkin bread loaf covered with pumpkin seeds. Some delicious food and fine folks. Best decorated booth went to Ben & Jamie, who also participated in the next day's new event, Harvest Market.

Recipes & video(s) will be coming soon!

Cool Let's get winter done with and send it off in a nice way!
Join our FDOS cooking crew for a late winter D.O.G that will feature an Irish theme. The cooking starts on SUNDAY, March 10th at Rohner Park in Fortuna. We plan to eat at 3 pm and will showcase Celtic favorites and newbies trying out black pot cooking.

If you would like to come EARLIER in the week for a cooking class/demo, join our members on WEDNESDAY, March 6th at 5:30 pm at Rohner Park Pavillion covered fireplace-kitchen area. Class participants will get to try out a main dish, bread, and dessert made up there as we teach how easy it can be to cook in a dutch oven. Cost of the class is $5 and includes food and recipes. You may sign up in advance at the Fortuna Parks & Rec Office at Rohner Park, or pay the evening of the class.

For more info or to RSVP, PM me, The Teardrop Nanny (Joanie) on this thread.
Thanks.
Thumbs Up

Invite & Reminder:
Class is happening this Wednesday at Rohner Park in Fortuna, CA.
DOG (Irish theme) is this Sunday, 3/10/13; meal starts at 3 pm.
If you are not able to come, cook something in YOUR cast iron this weekend just to keep it seasoned. Wouldn't want it to sit around and collect dust..... Laughing

Flirting Our local Dutch Oven Society, (FDOS) in Humboldt County held their holiday DOG yesterday at Rohner Park in Fortuna. The club fixed a turkey, turkey breast, spiral ham and numerous side dishes. Dean brought some cooked crab as well. We had a wonderful turn out and had some new folks check out what we do when cooking. A fine meal shared with a great group of folks. Our next gathering will be in January.
Joanie

PS
Dean has the turkey picture and I'll remind him to post it for you to drool over. Laughing

Flirting Just tossing out an invite for you to attend our March DOG in Sunny Fortuna (hopefully) where we have mild weather and hot food. The theme for this month is Irish or Go Green foods. Our small, but really friendly group, has some excellent cooks who would enjoy meeting and greeting some new folks. We meet at the covered fireplace pavillion in Rohner Park, City of Fortuna. Cooking begins in the morning where we will share tips and techniques. Eating starts in the early afternoon (usually 1- 2 pm)
We will also be holding a DO cooking class in the early spring after DST change, TBA. Feel free to PM me with any questions you might have about DO cooking.
