I heard about this on the radio and I thought it could be done. You bake a cake with a pie inside. I used a 12" Lodge camp oven, a store bought cherry pie, and a chocolate fudge cake mix.

I lined the oven with parchment paper just in case. I put a small amount of cake batter on the bottom of the oven. Usually I rely on shortening and flour for baking. But this baby would need "flipped" out and I wanted it in one piece.

Carefully inverting the pie into the bottom of the oven.

Pour the remaining cake batter over the "bottom" of the pie.

I used 9 coals below and about 18 on top. Notice the plywood wind break.

It took about an hour due to the cool outdoor temperature (38) and also the pie acting as a heat sink.

Flipped out just fine.

Need I say more? Top with a little whipped cream or just some powdered sugar.

May have to try it first to make sure I have it right .... mmm blueberry pie inside a upside down cheesecake... might even try to learn to post pictures for that. Good job Jim. It's got a little of the "wow" factor us cooks are looking for.

Being a Cub fan, I won't say anything about the World Series that ended in Ohio. So--how are the Browns doing?

Doug, We're planning a parade in downtown Cleveland for a perfect 0-16 season, as long as they don't blow it and win one!

Wow that looks great Jim. It would be a good one to do at Lehmans next year.

I made one this weekend:
Peach pie inside a yellow cake.

Fun to try, but for pure plavor I think a regular Peach Cobbler takes the cake!

Sounds good to me. Just need to add a large glass of milk and a bag of jalapeno kettle chips. Thumbs Up
