Hi all,

Through the years I've tried to keep from imposing any rules on the forum, apart from no fighting. I believe that we all know how to behave online.

Recently however we have had a growing issue with some members coming here with the primary intent of drawing our members onto their website. The most common method we see is the posting of a partial recipe with a link to the entire recipe on their website. Another method is the "me too" post where a member makes lots of "that looks great" posts with the link to their website prominently displayed in their signature.

Now I realize that a lot of us (myself included) have websites and want to increase our readership. I have no issues when a contributing member includes signature links. But it becomes painfully obvious when someone uses their posts solely to try to drive camp-cook traffic to their own site. This behavior is becoming a problem for myself and the moderators.

This leads me to introducing another forum rule that recipes must be provided in their entirety without links to offsite websites.

I understand that our member's cooking videos are hosted on other sites and I'm fine with that. I don't have the capacity to try to create a video server for our members. I will ask however that the actual recipe be posted on this site so our members can read through it before watching the video.

I'm sure everyone understands that we are trying to keep this a great resource for all of the outdoor cooks that have joined us. We can share other website links in a responsible manner, but we won't allow folks to go fishing in the camp-cook pond.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or issues with this new rule. In the near future I will be making a "sticky" with the forum rules so that new members will be familiar with how we keep things happy around here.

As always, thanks to the mods for helping out with the forum!

Joanne "Mom"

Yes, I am new here, but there are two posters that are doing this and the recipe links aren't even DO or campfire cooking. I don't open the threads started by these two anymore.

Good idea Brownie. We are working at getting that resolved on those users. If there's ever a question or something looks fishy...DON'T follow the link!!!

If anyone sees anything odd or you have any questions, you can pm me, Cliff, or Joanne and we'll take care of it.

Thanks!

Good idea, Joanne. I am actively adding new recipes to our cookbook, and it's very difficult to determine whether a 'remote' recipe should be added. I have decided that "When in doubt, leave it out". Now I will know for sure whether to include recipes.
