A new Dutch Oven Cook-off will debut this year at the Show. This event will take place Saturday, December 31 following the Annual Chuck Wagon Cook Off which will occur on December 30.

The cook off is being sanctioned by the International Dutch Oven Society (IDOS) and we are very excited to have the guidance from the Arizona IDOS Chapter Director Mark Wilkins. The winner from this cook off will be eligible to enter into the World Championship Cook Off, which is held in March 2012 in Utah as part of the Internationals Sportsmans Expo (ISE). Additional info on the World Championship can be found at http://www.idos.org

The Dutch Oven Cook Off is a different type of event than the Chuck Wagon Cook Off, consisting of 3 dishes. Each team will submit their recipe prior to the cook-off for the dessert, bread, and main dish they will be preparing. They will be working with charcoal, while the Chuck Wagon teams who would like to also compete will be using hardwood coals. This style of cooking leads to the heat management of the coals which you might think is something easy to do but there is an art to this technique to make sure your dish comes out just perfect!

These types of contests are done across the country with several throughout the year in Arizona. Contestants from the Chuck Wagon Cook Off are also able to participate in the Dutch Oven Cook Off.

The general public will have an opportunity purchase a tasting cup after the judging to sample all the scrumptious dishes. In addition to the cook off, there will be a live demonstrations provided by Mark Wilkins which will allow individuals to learn more about this cooking style and how you can do this at home.

If you are interested in competing in the contest, or sponsorship opportunities available for the Dutch Oven or the Chuck Wagon Cook Off please contact Rochell at the office 602-258-8568 or email rochell@anls.org
