Last week, I got a lot of good news and two offers that I'm really proud of.
The first is to speak as a survivor at one of the Liver Symposium events...details are still not nailed down, but it will either be Miami in January 2010 or Dallas in April 2010.
The second one is food-related, and in some ways I'm feeling a whole lot prouder about this one...one of the founders of Canvolution, Canning Across America, invited me to guest blog at their site: http://www.canningacrossamerica.com/
and share the evolution of my spicy tomato-orange jam recipe.

I've been making jam and entering it in the state fair off and on for a long time. I started with a tomato jam recipe that came on the pamphlet in the pectin box, and used it to deal with some over-achieving tomato plants in the 80s. In the mid-90s, I added cinnamon and won a Sure-Jell jam competition; the recipe became one of SJ's featured recipes in the 1996-07 season. In 2002, I used the jam, with the addition of orange juice concentrate, as a base for a BBQ hot wings sauce that won another state fair SJ competition. Then I started added ginger root (one of the BBQ sauce flavors) directly into the jam, and the recipe they'll feature is that version (one of the only versions SJ doesn't own by virture of contest sponsorship!)

I don't know what it is about being recognized for good cooking that makes me want to do more of it and do it again, but the invitation from Canvolution comes just as I've been building my first recipes blog, so it feels really special.

If anyone cans, definitely check out the Canvolution site. They're coordinating a can-across-America event on the last weekend of August. Here's hoping it's not too hot here to make jam or chutney!

Nice job but now you may have to do an item about Chris's pickles or invite him as guest blogger. Laughing
